Oriental Hotel 1972 advert

Probably Bangkok's most famous hotel, and also one of it's first. The official opening of the Oriental was in 1876, though unofficially there was an Oriental Hotel on the same spot as early as the 1860s. A fire in 1865 swept through the area and probably destroyed the earlier structure.

The hotel's location between the river and Charoen Krung Road, made it a center of European expat life in Bangkok from the late 19th century through the 1930s.
